[ mood | contemplative ]

I'm doing some research for an article I'm writing, and I want to know if people do or don't keep up with their local music scene these days.

If you guys could pop over and help me out, I'd be eternally greatful. Thanks!

Has anyone seen the movie Murderball? I've yet to see it, but a friend just send me a link to the soundtrackand I thought I would give everyone a heads up. From what I've heard it's this great mix of metal and hard rock, plus a few softer songs. Ministry, Jamie Saft, Ween, The Polyphonic Spree, Sam Prekop, The Moldy Peaches, and Scratch Massive are some of the bands on it! Heres the link if you want to check it out.

Umm...hi. My name is Luke, and I'm the maker of the Brilliant Forest. I just finished recording my LP, and you can hear a few songs on my myspace page. The genre is ambient/electronic/folk/indie. People have described it as sounding like Xiu Xiu, the Microphones, and Depreche Mode. I'm not sure what else. You can decide, maybe?

Does ANYONE have any of the VAST albums, besides "Visual Audio Sensory Theater" that they could send me? *begs*

Ad whore! [19 Sep 2004|02:56pm]

Yes... I'm currently being an advertisement whore but I WANT A FREE IPOD! And I have proof that this works... so please please please... go here, and it takes like 15 minutes and you can go ahead and get one too. It's basically advertisement companies bribing people by paying for ipods as long as people go through a quick little survey. It's ridiculously easy... so I suggest you try it.

do you really like music? really? want to talk about it?
do you find it lame when people say "I like all music but rap and country?"
do you have a sense of humor?
do you understand that livejournal isn't motherfucking sacred ground and should probably be taken lightly?

apply to nonpaste. if you want to diversify, expand, listen, and your ears aren't entirely broken, you'll get in. I promise.

Get 'em before they're not! [14 Nov 2003|03:13am]

Hi, I'm new here..

Anybody know what's up with the new U.N.K.L.E. album, Never Never Land? I mean, it's available as an import and was released in the UK about this time a month ago, but I can't seem to find any mention of an official US release. There's probably something here I'm just totally ignorant of, but I've read around about it a bit and nobody seems to have any clues. Of course I'd buy the UK version if Lavelle had, for some reason, no plans for releasing it whatsoever, but I doubt that a little..

For those in or near Boston:
Sunday, March 2nd
DJ Krush, Seishi, DJ Reazon
The Middle East Downstairs
18+, $12 advance/$15 DOS, 8 PM doors

I've been a fan of Krush for quite a few years. This is going to be my first opportunity to see him spin live. Seishi is a local DJ that normally spins very chill drum'n'bass. Like Krush, he's been known to use live musicians when he spins. Good stuff.

Hehe [12 Aug 2002|12:49pm]

And here I thought this community was going to be high maintenance. Hehe.

Umm lately I've been listening to this Australian rock band Something for Kate. I like them a lot. The singer's voice takes a bit of getting used to, but once you do it's quite nice. They're impossible to find in the States though. At least as far as I've seen. A couple of their albums are available on CDNOW but I haven't got them yet. Just been listening to the mp3s. Some of my fave songs are: Back to You(Piano Version), Captain, Electricity, Happy Endings, White, and my absolute favorite song by them is Ordinary World. If you're into that kind of rock music type stuff I'd definitely recommend them. They're not like super innovative or experimental or anything. They're just a straight up rock band with pretty decent lyrics and fun playing. It's addictive I tells yah.

Oh and another GREAT Australian act is Alex Lloyd. He's fantastic. Both his albums, Black the Sun and Watching Angels Mend are amazing. It's hard to pick favorite songs, but I guess I'd have to go with: Black the Sun, Amazing, Everybody's Laughing, Burn, and Bus Ride as good starters. Anyway, enjoy if you do and don't hate me if you don't.

Just Joined [06 Aug 2002|05:59pm]

Ummm... saw the community liked Serge so I decided to join after reading a few posts. I'm into a lot of different kinds of crazy stuff so I'll just put the main stuff I've been listening to lately as a sorta kinda idea of what I'm into maybe.

Serge Gainsbourg- Histoire de Melody Nelson(probably in my top ten albums of all time)
Pixies- Doolittle(my fave Pixies album)
Hives- Veni Vidi Vicious
Beach Boys- Pet Sounds
Rushmore Soundtrack
John Vanderslice- Mass Suicide Occult Figurines
Rufus Wainwright- Poses
Velvet Underground- Velvet Underground & NIco
Air- Moon Safari
Fountains of Wayne- Fountains of Wayne

Yeah I know, I've got very strange taste. Pretty much I'll like anything as long as it's good. I've been pretty bad lately about keeping up with LiveJournal stuff but I'm trying to get better so bear with me and stuff.

Newbie Newbie Nu [08 Jun 2002|06:10pm]

Found this place while listening to a Foetus download, then wondering if anybody else was reminded of the Residents. Probably would be bad form to plug my own music here.

Here's a question for all you DJ Shadow fans..... [31 May 2002|11:39am]

[ mood | confused ]

I need some advice on a very big perdicament...

I have $28 left in my checking account and DJ Shadow is spinning at the Bowery Ballroom on the 4th.....should I spend that $25 and go see him or be a good little girl and use that money for food?
